Symposium on “Impact of Economic Factors and Changing Technologies on Millennial Career”
Symposium on “Impact of Economic Factors and Changing Technologies on Millennial Career” was organized on 13th January 2020 by IQAC, BCOM with association with Financial Planning Academy. Financial Planning Academy (FDA) is the education division of Sykes and Rays Equities Ltd providing financial services to the nation for the last 30 years for businesses in broking, wealth management and education. The main purpose for conducting this workshop is to provide a medium to exchange views, ideas, and the latest innovations in the arena of financial market. This symposium was organized to encourage faculty and students to develop research based insight for the process of teaching and learning.

Maqsad - 2019
Every academic institution functions with a vision to create a better society; it aims at social emancipation through education. However, today there is a need to adopt other means to respond to the pressing concerns of the society and contribute to change. It is with this view in mind, that the faculty members and students of BCom. and BCom Accounting & Finance organized Maqsad – Shop for a Cause, an Institutional Social Responsibility program on 16th March 2019 in the college premises. Maqsad was designed as an initiative to support and contribute to NGOs which worked for various social issues ranging from environmental concerns, women empowerment, healthy living, to the problems of differently abled people. To realize the same goal, an exhibition / sale of the products manufactured by such NGOs was to be arranged, wherein the College facilitated the participating NGOs with the required infrastructure without any charges for the same.

Educational institutions aim at the holistic development of an individual. Accordingly, it is imperative to take measures to achieve the same. In recent times, the focus on catering to the emotional and physical health of the child has gained attention. As per the directives received from the UGC and Ayush Ministry, all educational institutions must dedicate a minimum of three to four hours on a weekly basis for yoga, meditation or any sports activity to ensure the same. With the same thought in view, the faculty members of BCom and IQAC of the College organized a three day Yoga event "DHYANOUTSAV" in association Shri Ram Chandra Mission’s Heartfulness NGO on 20th, 21st and 22nd of January 2020.

B.COM (Accounting & Finance)

‘BIZZUP - The Startup BIZZ’ was a competition between the students of SY BAF and SY BFM to showcase their talents in promoting and marketing ‘Startup ideas’. It was a joint initiative of BFM & BAF, conducted on 13th December, 2019. The judges were Mr. Jayant Shobhawat, founder and C.E.O and Mr. Mitesh Patel, Co-Founder of Zippy Feed foods. This competition was between teams of students, who had to create a unique startup, and pitch it up to the audience in the form of a ppt. The event tested the students’ innovative abilities, business sense, creativity and presence of mind. The students out-performed the expectations of the faculty members and judges; and came up with adroit presentations. The judges made the entire session interactive and therefore interesting, by asking questions on various aspects of each presentation. They also offered suggestions to the students which were of immense practical importance. The winning team consisted of Ms. Nikita Verma (SY BAF), Ms. Shalini Nair (FY BAF) and Ms. Simran Kamble (FY BAF). The runner-up team consisted of Ms. Lakshita Singh, Ms. Akanksha Sharma and Mr. Ashwin Menon from SY BFM. The event helped in elimination of stage-fear and building up confidence in students. The students enjoyed the experience of putting into practice what they learnt in theory.

The students of BAF have “Company Law” as a part of their SY syllabus.Around 60 students (9 TYs and 51 SYs) accompanied by a faculty visited RIL. The Secretary of SIES (Nerul) College of Arts, Science & Commerce Alumni Trust was instrumental in making this endeavour possible. The students were provided with an overview on Corporate laws, guidance on pursuing courses like that of the CS, CA, CMA, CFA, CFP, etc. Mr. Sudhakar Saraswatula, Vice President - Corporate Secretarial and his team offered guidance to the students. He talked about the importance of self confidence. He also discussed how it is important to make your own career path with your capabilities, identifying your strengths and weaknesses, improving on what you lack.

The staff and students of BAF have always attached a place of pride and importance for value based and social outreach activities. This year, Xmas celebrations were held with around 15 senior citizens of Adhata Trust on 24th December, 2019. The AVRoom, venue of the event and a Christmas tree were decorated with balloons, stars and lights to bring in the festive mood. The event began with a prayer song. There was a reading from the Bible and the Christmas message was delivered by a faculty member of BAF. Then, a few students of the Music Club joined the students of SY BAF in singing Carols, the highlight of every XMas celebration. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the rendition. The next item in the program was a skit performed by the students of SY BAF – which conveyed to the audience what Christmas is all about -importance of caring and sharing!! The members of the Adhata Trust were then invited to speak or perform something, if they desired. A couple of them came forward and sang songs, also spreading the message of sharing and love. The members also expressed their joy and gratitude on making them a part of the celebrations.

B.COM (Banking & Insurance)

Insurance Mela is an event where all the students of Third Year of B.Com (Banking and Insurance) present various Insurance related topics. The event started with an inauguration ceremony where Vice Principal – Dr. Koel Roy Choudhury started the event by cutting the ribbon. 1st Insurance Mela was conducted in the academic year 2010-11 and this year marks the momentous 10th year of Insurance Mela.

Under the banner of SYNERGY, a stage play competition was organized between SYBBI and FYBBI students on the topic “Universal values and ethics“. The judge for the event was Ms Ananya Gon from BMS department. There were total 5 groups from FYBI and SYBI. Total 30 participants showed their creativity, communication skills, acting skills and coordination skills to make this event a grand success. The audience comprised of BBI faculties and 80 students from FYBI and SYBI classes. The event helped students of BBI to showcase their talent in stage play and also gain knowledge on universal values and ethics in the society.

The programme was conducted to educate the students about the Insurance Sector and also share information about the most trustworthy insurance brand – Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and to provide internship opportunities to them. 65 students from second year and 70 students from third year attended LIC training Internship programme. This training internship programme will help our students to gain practical knowledge alongwith improving their theoretical concepts.

B.COM (Financial Markets)

NISM (National Institute of Securities Markets) Visit
On 17th February, 2020 a visit to National Institute of Securities Market campus located at Patalganga, Rasayani was organized by Department of Bachelors in Commerce (Financial Markets). Twenty-eight students of FYBFM, SYBFM and TYBFM participated along with faculty in charge Ms. Priyanka Gogri.

It is the annual departmental festival, initiated in the year 2010-11. An intercollegiate event organized with the objective to expose students to understand the working of financial market.

Mock Stock Trading (Virtual Stock Market Trading)
To acquaint students with Stock Market Terminology, Indices, Stock Quotes, DEMAT Account, Stock Market Analysis & key points that should be taken in to consideration while investing in the stock market. KARTAVYA Visit to SAI PREM (Organisation for spiritual development of society with the mission to provide free healthcare, medicare & educare).


BMM Department has always initiated CSR activities as part of the Frames Film Festival organized by the Deartment. On the 3rd of December 2019, team Frames took a day out to celebrate ‘International Day of Disabled Persons’ with children who have to live with their disabilities every single day. They collaborated with the ETC Centre for Disability in Vashi to spend time with these kids. A bunch of fun activities were organized that encouraged the differently abled children to showcase their skills, ranging from dance to gully cricket. The day started off with an inauguration ceremony arranged by ETC, which witnessed a spectacular welcome performance by the specially- abled children. After the show, everyone took part in a silent but effective rally where uplifting slogans were held up on signboards in support of inclusivity of such differently abled children.

Media Summit 2020
Media Summit 2020 was a Media Conference hosted by the Mass Media Department of SIES (Nerul) College of Arts, Science and Commerce, on the 20th of February, 2020. This conference had two interactive panels which decoded some of the relevant and trending themes in the media industry. This year's theme being "Media Prism: Reflecting Narratives", the two panels aimed to debate and discuss issues of today's times. This first panel was graced by Stalin Dayanand, a Mumbai based environmentalist and one the director of an environmental NGO 'Vanashakti' along with Harish Iyer, a highly recognised human rights activist; Anamika Sengupta, founder and curator of Almitra Sustainables and Chitra Hiremat, Director of Garbage free India. The panelists for second session were Yogesh Pawar, a freelancer who has previously worked with NDTV and DNA for a considerable period of his career; Vinaya Deshpande, who currently works with CNN News 18 and Prasanna Joshi, who is a senior producer and a news anchor at ABP Majha.

Frames Film Festival 2020
On 9th of January 2020 the annual departmental festival of SIES (Nerul) College of Arts, Science and Commerce commenced. This was an initiative by the 2003 batch of BMM department. Today, it is known as India’s largest undergraduate film festival which receives over 3000 entries from 115 countries. Spanning over three days, the event includes screening of films of seven different categories, namely – International Short Films, National Short Films, Contingent Films, Documentaries, Advertisements, Animation films, and Music Videos.


Business Quiz is the highlight of Sharpshooters. It is a multi-level corporate quiz and is the flagship event of Sharpshooters. This year I.e for Sharpshooters 2020, we had organised The Business Quiz on 23rd January, 2020 in our SIESCOMS Auditorium from 11pm onwards. The BQ Master for this year was Mr. Kushan Patel who had come all the way long from Gujrat to conduct this event for us and the prize money for the quiz was Rs. 20,000.

Sharpshooter fest a BMS Department initiative of SIES college of Management studies , Nerul conducted a CSR Event on 23rd December, 2019. The event was conducted in Dharavi with children of Abhilasha School. The students reached Abhilasha school at 10 am in the morning. After reaching there they interacted with children of morning batch. They celebrated Christmas with the children by one of the student being Santa Claus and giving the children chocolates and decorating the school with Christmas tree. They made them smile and enjoy by playing games and singing with them. They even danced with the children at different songs in which the children enjoyed a lot. After that children went for their lunch. Later on gifts were given to the children by the core team of Sharpshooters 2020. The students even interacted with the children of afternoon batch. And similarly had fun with them by dancing and singing with them. And also celebrated Christmas with them and then the children were given gifts. That fun and enjoyment which the children had created their little faces smile. And at 3pm Students returned back to college with creating smiles to remember on the faces of the that little children.

Women Self Defense
11th December 2017; Monday: on 11th December 2017 Sies (Nerul) arts science and commerce conducted day two of women self defense program from 12:30pm in partnership with Iron Wolf207. It was two day program conducted by trainer YashRambhia where 300 plus girl students where trained. . The training started with warmup exercises, boxing combinations, boxing and karate basics and muaythai. YashRambhia clarified doubts of students by giving real life examples which can take place. The tigeress statue was included in the event to show the power of women self defence. The Event ended with positive vibes and sharpshooters team thanked YashRambhia for this event and looks forward for more such events.

B.SC. Information Technology

Technical Exhibition and Communite
Technical Exhibition: Department of BSc.IT organized a Technical exhibition to demonstrate various energy efficient, innovative and cost saving models that can be implemented in our day to day lives. Around 25 teams participated and presented their projects and models. Dr. Atul Kemkar. Head of Department (HOD) and Mr. Vishal Gaikwad, faculty of EXTC department of SIES GST honoured and judged the event.
Communite Theme: Phases of Communication Era (Primitive to digital modes / methods of communication) : The purpose of this exhibition was to demonstrate the Phases of communication through different eras conducted by FY BSc IT students on 1st October, 2019.

Visit to Karuneshwar
B.Sc(IT) organized a visit to Karuneshwar Old Age Home, Nere on 10th January, 2019. The main objective of the visit was to give students the chance to interact with elders and learn from their experiences along with giving them the joy of a conversation. Both Students and Elders shared their stories, snacks and experience with one another. The event also witnessed a few tears of joy caused from the conversations along with many friendships being made. The elders were friendly and welcoming towards their young visitors.

Industrial Visit to ISME
A one-day industrial visit was organized on 18th September 2019 by the association of ISME - School of Management & Entrepreneurship for 41 students of BSc. IT under the guidance of faculty members namely, Ms. Anu Thomas (BSc IT Coordinator), Ms. Meghana Bhatia and Dr. Swati Vitkar. ISME is a revolutionary academic ecosystem focused on creative thinking and design led innovation. They provided the campus tour comprising the 5 schools. It was an incredible opportunity for the students to watch the live ‘Robot Mitra’ at ISME.

B.SC. Computer Science

Inventum , the Tech-Exhibition was held on 3rd March 2020 wherein students showcased static and working models which can be used for learning various technical concepts by college students. Students had made still models, working models, charts and posters to present their topics. Ms. Fatima Kothari took the initiative of encouraging the students to put up such a wonderful and enlightening exhibition. The faculty members and judges appreciated the students. They asked students about the concepts forming the foundation of the projects. Students had prepared projects like physical charger, smart home automation, etc. There were 7 teams in total who participated in this event.

“Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision.” Taking the vision of a social event, the students of the Computer Science department under the guidance of the faculty members conducted the CSR event from our departmental festival TECHNOVISION 2019 on 15th November 2019. There were around 24 TECHNOVISION team volunteers. The team visited the ‘Vishwa Balak Kendra’ NGO (Nerul). The Vishwa Balak Kendra also known as “Children Of The World INDIA” provided us with 30-35 students from the 3rd to 6th standard. The children were enthusiastic and eager to learn. Doubtlessly, education is the most powerful catalyst for social transformation. The children were divided into groups according to their age groups. In this current word, computer literacy is must so the team provided computer education to children of 5th and 6th standard by teaching them the basics of the computer like Microsoft Word, basics of G suit, Google docs, Google forms, basics of programming. The knowledge was given in a way that would interest the students and help better their skills in a short period of time.

The B.SC(CS) in collaboration with the student Developers club of S.I.E.S(Nerul) hosted the flutter interact party for Staff and students of B.SC.(CS).This was an international event which was live streamed in the college on 12th December, 2019 It started off with a keynote on Flutter and then followed up by an introduction to Flutter and its features. It was followed by a workshop on building apps with flutter. This event was attended by Teachers and Students who all seemed to enjoy the session.

M.COM (Advanced Accountancy)

An expert guidance lecture on Goods and Service Tax
An expert guidance lecture was organized for MCom students on 23rd January 2020 to give them some knowledge about “GST- ONE INDIA, ONE TAX”. The session was attended by 60 students .The lecture was taken by Mr A.K Sinha, an Ex-officer of CGST and a lawyer and consultant by profession. Mr sinha briefed the session with the definition and the applicability of Goods and service tax. He explained the students how GST is calculated on different kind of transactions. He defined “GST is an indirect tax on supply of goods or services or both”. Further he explained the meaning of the ‘event of supply’ which includes transactions like transfer, sale, barter, lease/rent, gift, disposal, exchange, and license. He gave the types of GST which are CGST,SGST,IGST & UTGST. He also taught us essentials/requirements for Tax applicability on Goods and/or services. The session was ended with the explanation of GST as destination based tax.

The department conducted their Departmental activity “THE TUTOR” this year on 18th December 2019 by visiting “THE KANCHAN FOUNDATION”- Non Government Organistaion which was located in sector-28, Vashi. The motive of conducting this activity was to build up confidence in them, develop good communication skill and make them feel comfortable for interacting with new people. We played some Fun games with them as an eye breaking session. Further we started our activities like craft & origami where we taught them to make rose, sofa, rocket, boat, snake, balloons etc which indirectly taught them to listen and follow the instructions. Then small quiz round & spell Bee competition was conducted by forming groups of 6 kids with one of our volunteer in each group for their general knowledge to develop leadership skills and team work and prize was given to the winners. We ended our event with zumba dance which they learned and can practice as their daily morning exercise.

“Research Paper/Proposal Writing”
Research Committee in Association with the Department of Masters of Commerce organised a session for Faculty members on - “Research Paper/Proposal Writing” on 4th December, 2019 from 10.00 am to 11:30 am in A.V.ROOM. The Resource person was Professor Peter Walter Cunningham Emeritus Professor, D Phil (UPE), DipSoc (Kent), Accredited Consultant: SAP R/3 Human Resources & Business Information Warehouse. The Resource Person explained in detail the guidelines of Research Paper/Proposal Writing . He also explained all the requirements for proposal writing, various formats and the report writing .Our 11 faculties attended this workshop.

M.SC. Information Technology and M.SC. Computer Science

PNS Worker Training
The PNS Worker training is an activity initated by the faculties and students of MSc-InformationTechnologyand MSc-Computer Science Course in association with IQAC. The PNS Staff is the housekeeping staff of the college. This training is provided for an hour over a span of a week. It consists of 3 parts: English, Mobile Phones/ Day to Day Activities and Computer. The workers are trained on Written and Spoken English during the first 2/3days. The 2nd section consists of training them on day to day activities like filling a form, writing a cheque, writing an application,paying bills online,etc. The third section consists of teaching them how to use a computer. They were also trained for using the Internet, typing a Word document(Bio-Data) and printing their Bio-Data.

Women's Day Celebration
The students of MSc-IT and MSc-CS celebrate Women's Day every year. They distribute hand made cards to all female staff in the campus. The program focuses on Internal as well as External Grooming of Women. We also organize activities focused on Empowerment of women.

E-Waste Activity
Electronic waste or e-waste describes discarded electrical or electronic devices. The faculties organize various activities every year which focus on awareness about e-waste. The activities range from Poster Competitions to making best out of E-waste. A collection box is placed at the college entrance for collecting e-waste from students and staff. This is further reused or recyled.


Ozone Day
On occasion of World Ozone day celebrated every day on 16th September, the Environmental science department has arranged Guest lecture on 13th September 2019. Guest speaker was Dr. Sanjay Joshi, Vice president of ParyavaranDakshataMandal (NGO, Thane). There were total 20 students of M. Sc. Environmental Science Part I & II present for Guest lecture. Dr Sanjay Joshi started lecture with detailed information about Ozone day and its history. He explained about the ‘Good ozone’ and ‘Bad ozone’. He also explained changes occurred in ozone hole during the course of time. He delivered such an amazing lecture on Ozone depletion and the present condition of ozone with great gratitude.

Educational Visit
One day Educational Visit of M. Sc. Part 1 was organised at Matheran on 3rd December 2019. The purpose of the visit was to carry out two major practicals from syllabus namely the soil profile and hydrological cycle of a water body. Students were accompanied with the resource person Dr. Jyoti Koliyar. Matheran is a hill station in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. Matheran plateau lies between 18° 55’N Latitude and 73° 51’E Longitude. It has an average elevation of 800 meters. The total area of the Matheran Eco-Sensitive Zone is 214.73 Sq.Km. in Karjat Tahsil.

Popular Science Lecture
The Department of Environmental Science of SIES (Nerul) college of arts, science and commerce had organized the “Popular Science Lecture” collaboration with Indian Women Scientists Association. The guest speaker was heartily welcomed by Dr.Jyoti G. Koliyar, Coordinator Department of Environmental Science and presented a small token of appreciation to our valuable guests The lecture was on ‘Radioactivity in the Environment’ which was presented by Dr. S.K Sahu Scientific Officer of Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Division BARC Mumbai.
