COLLOQUIUM
ALUMNI PANEL DISCUSSION

On 8th August 2015, more the 150 third year students of SIES (Nerul) came forward to take part in an ingenious event Colloquium, 2015 conducted by the SIES Alumni Association (SIESNAA). After the remarkable success of the event last year the committee felt compelled to make it a reality this year as well. The topic for this year’s Alumni Panel discussion was ‘Paradigm shift in BFSI Sector’.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr J Santhanam (Vice President of SIES Managing Council), Mr S V Viswanathan (Joint Secretary of SIES), Dr Rita Basu (Principal), Teachers and students. The function started with the lighting of the lamp followed by the Welcome Speech. Later Mr J Santhanam and Mr S V Viswanathan addressed and motivated the students.

The main concept behind Colloquium is to provide a platform for the aspiring students to gain knowledge on several topics through the valuable guidance of Alumni who are corporate professionals and are having a lot of competence and expertise in their respective fields. So here, Ex Students of SIES come forward as the panelists and discuss about the topic mentioned and it further allows students to clarify their doubts and confusions regarding the topic so as to grasp the topics thoroughly.

The Panel Discussion started at 10:00 am. It consisted of five panelists who are alumni of SIES (Nerul).

  • Mr Yashraj Thakkar (Ex B.Com), SHCIL Projects.
  • Ms Pallavi Pandey (Ex BAF), Godrej and Boyce Mfg. Co Ltd.
  • Mr Melvyn Santarita (Ex BBI), VR Wealth Advisors Pvt Ltd.
  • Ms Aditi Raman (Ex BFM), Edelweiss Securities Ltd.
  • Mr Aakash Sharma (Ex BBI), Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Company – Moderator.

After a brief introduction about themselves and about how they have reached an adept position in their career, every panelist shared their knowledge about the BFSI Industry which gave students an overview about how things work in the real world. They were able to link what they have learned theoretically in their textbooks with what happens in reality i.e. in the practical world. The panelists spoke on various topics such as Career Options available in the Industry, Courses which students can pursue for Post-Graduation to acquire a rewarding job, Different methods of learning things and about perceptions that students have regarding various topics, Debt Markets etc. After the discussion a question and answer session was conducted for the students where they could clear all their queries regarding the topics discussed.

Further, the honorable Principal, Dr. Rita Basu, expressed her views and thanked panelists by felicitating all the panel members with token of appreciation. The event concluded with vote of thanks by Ms Bhavi Jain (Student Secretary Alumni Association).

SIESNAA strives hard to enhance the relationship between undergraduates and Alumni. Events like Colloquium not only strengthened the bond between Ex-students and current Students but also extended an opportunity for the Ex Students to contribute back to college from where one has gained so much. Apart from this it was also a way to develop and motivate future Bankers and Finance professionals. The event was a grand success. With the encouragement from the Ex Students and a wonderful chance to interact with those distinguished professionals it truly was a day to remember.

1. Alumni Meet

Till now, 3 alumni meets were organised in the year 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12 with the objective of interaction amongst alumni, as well as interaction with teachers.

"SIESNAA hosted 3rd Annual Alumni Meet on February 25th, 2012 in college campus. For the first time the event was a whole day event, sports activities in the morning and Formal Meet which concluded with DJ and dinner in the evening. Sporting events like Table Tennis, Box cricket, ring football and tug of war were carried on with enthusiasm. An exhibition match was played between alumni and current students to increase the interaction between them.

Main attraction of the event was “SIESNAA Special Achiever Award” the award was given to those who have achieved extraordinary milestones in their life and made their alma mater proud.

To felicitate those who have achieved extraordinary milestones in their life, awards were given to the following:

  • Fl. Prathamesh Goankar (Indian Air Force) a 2008 Bachelors of Information Technology passed out and
  • Lt. Teffy Thomas (Indian Army) a Bachelors of Science In Computer Science, a 2009 batch passed out.

2. Graduation Day

Graduation Day programmes were organised till now in the year - 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. An Oath-taking ceremony was organized for all graduates. Also, certificates were distributed to them. Memento, in form of group photographs along with their teachers, were also distributed. The event is always a grand success and a memory to cherish for all the graduates.




3. Bonne chance (Farewell to TY students)

2 Bonne chance were organised in the year 2011-12 & 2012-13. The main aim for organizing this event was to make third year students aware about SIESNAA and motivate them to become members of it in the next academic year when they pass out as graduates from the college.

This event also becomes the most memorable event for all third year students as they celebrate their last moments of togetherness with their friends and faculties as being college students.


4. Election of the New Office Bearers

On 26th April 14, an interactive meeting was organized with alumni’s and faculties of our college. The main aim of the meeting was to have self nomination for the new board members of SIESNAA.

All the interested alumni introduced themselves and applied for the various positions in SIESNAA. This helped in selecting the members for new board of SIESNAA. The meeting was then followed by fellowship where alumni’s and faculties exchanged their ideas with each other. The meeting was indeed an interactive one


5. Promoting Education for Weak Students

Alumni has always been proactive and helped needy students by Sponsoring weak Students as and when needed.


6. ALUMNI INTERFACE WITH STUDENTS
  • Our alumni from BMS course, name Mr Anupam Acharya, conducted Corporate Readiness Programme for the third year students of B.Com Financial Market course, BSc IT course and B.Com Banking and Insurance Course in the year 2012-13.
  • Alumni also help in conducting campus placements.
  • Our Alumni from B.Com Banking & Insurance, Mr. Aakash Sharma, initiated a Certificate Course on Financial Consultant for all the commerce courses of the college in the year 2014-15. 78 students registered for the first module on financial markets beginners and advance level and 54 students registered for second module on capital market and wealth management.


  • SIESNAA is prompt in guiding the Members of working committee of SIESONS and various departmental festivals as and when required. They also participate in SIESONS, Departmental Festivals and Orientation programmes.
  • BMS Alumni organises “Business Quiz” at Sharpshooters (BMS festival) by being Quiz Masters.



7. “Together We Achieve” (Interaction through Guest Sessions)

Alumni have come as guest speakers in various courses and conducted sessions for current students

This event was organized on 2nd August’14 to blossom friendship between students and ex-students. There were three rose bouquets arranged and the bidding auction took place. The students put in amounts ranging from Rs.20-Rs.500 to win the bouquets and gift it to their close friends. Thus bonding between current students and ex students was enhanced on eve of friendship day.

9. Colloquium- BBI Alumni Panel Discussion

It was organized on 17th January’15 where the ex- students of B.Com Banking & Insurance were invited as panelists to share their knowledge with the current students of BBI on the topic ‘The Changing Career Dimensions in Banking Sector’.
