The inauguration of the sixth centre of the ADHATA Trust was organized at SIES (Nerul) College on 11th July 2016. The ADHATA Trust was established in the year 2012 in Mumbai by Shri Arun Nanda who was the President of the Mahindra Group of Companies. In 4 years the trust opened 5 centres to cater to the needs of the ageing population of our city. The trust has achieved its aim of improving the quality of life of senior citizens. After reaching out to a number of senior citizens in these five centres, the ADHATA Trust has tied up with SIES (Nerul) College to start its 6th centre in Navi- Mumbai.

The Event was attended by 75 members of various centres of the trust and faculty members from SIES(Nerul) College. The event commenced at 11.15 am with the traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. The program was inaugurated by Shri Arun Nanda, Founder & Trustee (ADHATA), Prof. Koel Roy Choudhury, Principal (SIES), S.V Vishwanathan, Joint Hon. Sec (SIES), Clara D’Souza, Coordinator (ADHATA).

Prof. Mithun Pillai and Prof Priyanka Mohan were the hosts for the event. Prof. Priyanka introduced the legacy of SOUTH INDIAN EDUCATION SOCIETY (SIES) to the guests. Prof Mithun of gave a brief introduction on the objectives and activities of the ADHATA Trust. Principal Prof. Koel Roy Choudhury delivered the welcome address wherein she reflected on the need for an association with ADHATA trust. She promised all support and encouragement for the success of this special endeavour.

The Matunga members of the ADHATA Trust gave a presentation on the activities of the trust and their personal experiences on being participants in the trust’s Journey. With numerous activities, the trust aims to improve the quality of life of elderly by addressing physical, psychological, social and mental well being of the senior citizens. Some of the activities include Meditation, Pranayam, Balance, etc, the benefits of which are evident and thoroughly enjoyed by them. One of the participants narrated his own experience about how he was afraid to even cross the streets at one point but how learning balance changed that for him. "You should get what I got" reasoned the participant. In spite of their age all members took part in the Mumbai Marathon in 2015. They have even performed in front of a large audience at the Shanmukhananda Hall, Sion. Their experiments with art and craft helped them in building a much needed eye, brain and hand coordination.

The Presentation was followed by three dance performances of various members from different centres. Most of the participants above the age of 70 grooved to old and new bollywood numbers. They received instant applause from the audience. Their energy, passion and enthusiasm had to be seen to be believed. The audience were in for a treat as Mrs Shalini, one of the members of the ADHATA Trust had coined a special song for the Trust and had other members sing it along with her.

Shri Arun Nanda addressed the gathering and expressed his gratitude to the members of the Trust he had so affectionately founded. "God has been kind enough to give us opportunities to shed our inhibitions" he reminded us. He also pleaded for everyone to create value systems and protect the environment.

Shri S.V. Vishwanathan also spoke on the occasion and expressed his joy and happiness on being part of the initiative. He expressed hope that the college will strive to reach out to the large community in Navi-Mumbai. Mrs Clara Dsouza of the ADHATA Trust delivered the vote of thanks and the very successful inaugural program of the Navi-Mumbai centre concluded.

The Navi Mumbai center at SIES(Nerul) College will start their activities from Monday, 18th July. Every day from Monday to Friday, between 4-6 pm ADHATA Trust will organize events and activities for elderly people staying in and around Nerul, Navi Mumbai.
