The Principal Prof. Rita Basu, Vice-Principal Prof. Sudha Sriram, faculty members of the Degree College and Junior College and around thirty seven parents from various courses attended the meeting.

The Convenor of the PTA Prof. Jyoti Koliyar welcomed the gathering.

The Principal Prof. Rita Basu, Vice-Principal Prof. Sudha Sriram and three guests symbolically initiated the proceedings of the meeting by lighting the lamp.

The Principal addressed the audience and spoke about the significance of the PTA. She invited parents to be part of the PTA, which would meet twice a year. She insisted that more than academic excellence, it should be the values attached to the system that should make every student proud. She also expressed the desire that teachers and parents should join hands in grooming young students into responsible citizens that the nation would be proud of.

Prof. Sunita Ambore (Faculty, Junior College) gave a speech regarding the initiative taken by the College to get parents involved in the various activities of the Institution so that the students get the maximum advantage. She quoted Dr. Abdul Kalam to stress on the fact that for dreams to come true, one should take all possible steps and not just be complacent, just dreaming. She also mentioned about the Theatre Club which was an initiative proposed and encouraged by the Principal Dr. Rita Basu.

An entertainment program consisting of music, dance and a skit was performed by the students. Each of the items was very well rendered. The songs were melodious. The dance depicted some stories of Krishna Leela. The skit had a very strong social message, presented in a lively and humorous way.

Then, the Vice-Principal Prof. Sudha Sriram presented the Annual Report in the form of a Power-point.

The Principal invited some of the parents to come up to the stage and share their views. In response, three parents from among the audience came up. All of them expressed their happiness about their wards being students of SIES (NERUL). They also suggested that the College should take measures to find out and correct any undesirable habits that the students might have. They also expressed their anxiety about the increasing stress levels that modern day’s youth is going through.

The Principal told the parents that the College has a professional Counsellor and many students are taking her advice in handling their problems.

Thus, the purpose of calling the PTA was well achieved.

Prof. Jyoti Koliyar proposed the vote of thanks.

The meeting came to a close with the rendering of the National Anthem.

Refreshments were served at the end, and the parents interacted with the teachers informally.
